Federal Government Announces Completion Date for Abuja-Zaria-Kano Dual Carriageway
The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has confirmed that the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Dual Carriageway is set to be completed in 2026. During an inspection alongside Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, on Friday, Umahi assured that the government aims to complete 15km per month over the next 24 months to meet the 375.9km project's completion deadline. Umahi disclosed, "Abuja to Kaduna is 165km, out of which 45km has been completed." He highlighted the progress on different sections, mentioning that the Kaduna-Zaria section is finished, leaving only 20km between Zaria and Kano. The Minister commended the palliative work done on the road, emphasizing the government's commitment to funding the project. A signed outstanding certificate of N17 billion and another N33 billion in processing ensure adequate funding. The Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Road, crucial for connecting various parts of Nigeria to the North, passes through Abuja, Niger, Kaduna, and Kano States. The government anticipates that the completion of this dual-carriageway will facilitate the movement of agricultural produce, leading to a reduction in food prices, lowering inflation, and stabilizing the economy. The reconstruction of the Abuja-Zaria-Kano dual carriageway was approved in December 2017, with the project commencing in May 2018. Julius Berger holds the contract for the road reconstruction. The government, led by the Babatunde Fashola-led Works Ministry in January 2021, had stated the project's appreciable progress, anticipating completion before the end of the Buhari administration. Minister Umahi, in January 2024, reaffirmed the government's readiness to clear the N1.5 trillion debt owed to contractors of federal highway projects. During his time as the governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi excelled in the development of infrastructure, earning the trust of President Tinubu. As a result, he was appointed as the Nigerian Minister of Works, a position which he has handled with excellence thus far, despite being in office for a short period of time. Read the full article

By • Olalekan Fagbade JUST IN; I Dont need a title to serve in Tinubu's Government- Ex- Governor Raji Fashola Former Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) says he does not need a title to serve in the President Bola Tinubu-led administration, which in his view, is birthing the next generation of leaders. Fashola, a close aide of Tinubu, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the Lagos State University, Ojo, on Tuesday. He was at the University to deliver a keynote address at the institution’s fifth research and innovation fair. The former Lagos State Governor, who also served as Tinubu’s Chief of Staff when the President was governor of the state. was responding to a question on his role in the present administration at the federal level and possibility of an appointment. He said, “I do not need a title to serve: the president can only appoint at least one minister, for example, from each state which he has done that. “There are just enough places in parastatals, they are doing that; we are estimated to be 200 million, so there are not enough offices to take everybody. “All of us must play our roles as citizens, and a citizen does not need a title to serve. “The biggest title you need is that of being citizen and play our role; we are also talking about the next generation. ”If some do not move on, where is the place for the next batch?” He said there was the need to bring more outstanding public spirited people to occupy spaces as they evolve. Fashola said he looked forward to a lot more youthful people being part of the administration.(NAN) #IdontneedatitletoserveinTinubusGovernmentsaysFashola

By • Olalekan Fagbade Police confirm arrest of publisher’s Brother after petition by former Works Minister THE Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has confirmed the arrest of one Chike Ibezim, an entrepreneur, following a petition by former Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola. On August 10, Chike was reportedly arrested by some police officers in Abuja, the country’s capital. Fashola was said to have written a petition against the entrepreneur about a report published by Reportera, a news established by Nnamdi Ibezim, the elder brother of Chike. In August, the platform published a report claiming that Fashola was drafting the presidential election tribunal verdict that would be handed to judges to deliver. The former minister denied the claim and petitioned the inspector-general of police over what he described as defamatory report. After Chike was picked up and detained, his brother accused the police of arrest by proxy. But in a statement yesterday, force spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, said Chike had a case to answer over alleged “malicious publication, cyber-bullying, and other related offences”. Adejobi said the detention of the entrepreneur was “based on a court order”. He said: “Contrary to speculations, we affirm that Mr. Chike is in lawful custody based on a court order, and his detention is in connection with a prima facie case of malicious publication, cyber-bullying, and other related offences that are still under investigation by the police. “The arrest and detention of individuals are carried out in strict adherence to legal procedures and respect for individual rights. “In this case, a court order was obtained, following a thorough investigation, which established an indictment on Mr Chike, who has given useful information and is assisting the police in the course of their investigation.” #PolicearrestpublishersBrotherafterFashola’spetition
